1. Get used to rejection

When he graduated from University, he applied for 30 jobs and got rejected. He even went to KFC and got rejected. Harvard didnt even respond to any of his 10 applications. To to Jack Ma, being turned down or rejected is a part of life.

2. Keep your dream alive

Jack believes the secret is always to keep your dream alive, because it can come true one day.

3. Focus on culture

Growing from 18 people to 20000 people, Jack focuses on the culture at AliBaba.

4. Ignore the Haters

Dont listen to haters, use them to motivate you. Many people told jack they had never heard of a more stupid idea, when he first pitched AliBaba. Now this stupid idea is being used by over 100 million people per day.

5. Get inspired

Inspiration comes from everywhere. For Jack, movies such as The Bodyguard, The Godfather and his favourite, Forest Gump have inspired him in many ways, as well as many mentors along the way. Get inspired.

6. Stay focused

Stay focused on whats important for you. As Jeff Bezos mentioned in his success principles, Jack suggests that you focus on something and never stay from it. For him, making his business run better and more efficiently is the most important thing, and not necessarily making more money.

7. Have a good name

Much like Jeff Bezos mentioned in choosing the name Amazon instead of Cadabra, Jack wanted to find a glodal name that everyone would recognise. He stumbled on the name AliBaba, and when he was in San Fransisco, he asked a waitress if she had heard of AliBaba. After she confirmed she had, and other members of the public also recognised it, he decided to go for it.

8. Customers are #1

It is the customers who make the business run. Customers should always be number one and employees number 2.

9. Don’t complain, look for opportunities

Even if you stumble on a difficulty, see the lessons in it and the opportunities they give you for growing.
