New Years Resolution

Learning the key skill of goal setting and understanding how to set goals in a new year will be the most important step you take to give yourself the best and most successful start.
Success is not all about the destination, it is a continuous journey that you are always on.
If you approach a new year correctly, you have the potential to make every new year your best yet. There are ways that you can set yourself up for success every year.
5 Step Goal Setting – How to Set Goals for a New Year
Apply the strategies in this list to make sure you stay on course to achieving your goals by using this new years resolution action plan.
1. Assess the Previous Year
Before you can begin the new year, you have to take the time to reflect on your performance in the previous year. There must have been successes and failures, and by engaging in some self reflection, you can learn any lessons that you need to take with you into the new year. You can determine where you are headed and the reasons why you didn’t achieve all the goals that you had set for yourself in the previous year.
The main reason for engaging in self reflection is not to feel negative about your performance during the previous year, but instead, to recognize where you are in your journey to your goal so you can make a plan to move forward and stay on track.
2. Set New Goals
The next step is to set yourself some new goals that you plan to accomplish in the new year. These goals can include the ones that weren’t achieved during the previous year, or they can be new goals that will take you steps closer to your bigger goal.
By using the new year as a new goal setting opportunity, you learn how to set goals more efficiently and start the year with a clear idea of where you’re going and what you have to do to get there.
3. Use the Present Tense
Now that you have a list of the goals that you would like to accomplish in the new year, use the present tense and re-write your goals as if you have already accomplished them.
I want to earn $200,000 this year becomes I earn $200,000 this year.
The reason you should do this is that your subconscious mind can only register commands that are phrased in the present tense.
I will quit smoking will become I am a non-smoker.
As well as writing them in the present tense and as if you have already accomplished them, they must also be in the personal tense, beginning with I.
Your subconscious will recognize these goals as commands and you will take all the relevant steps to achieve your goal because you believe that not only are you capable of accomplishing them, but you have already done so.
4. Choose Your Primary Goal
Now that you have a list of goals that you want to accomplish in the new year, written in the personal and present tense, choose one goal on your list that if you could achieve right now would have the greatest positive impact on your life.
This goal now becomes your primary goal, the top new years resolution and your major purpose in the new year. This is your most important decision to work on.
5. Make a Plan and Take Action
Now that you have chosen a primary goal, you need to make a plan. To ensure the best chance of achieving your goal, choose a specific time by which you want to complete this goal. Make a list of the difficulties you will have to overcome, the additional skills and information you will need to acquire, as well as any people you can ask for assistance to help you achieve this goal.
Organize all of this information into your plan and begin to take action to put your plan into effect. Any action that you take as soon as you have your plan in place should take you steps closer to accomplishing your goal.
Many people lose their self motivation not long after a list of new years resolutions have been written down, but by setting clear goals on your new years resolution plan and taking massive action to achieve them, you will stay motivated as you constantly and efficiently edge closer to accomplishing your bigger goals.
